Water and waste water industry
Just like the power and gas market the water and waste water industry will enter into a liberalisation process within a mid-term or at least long-term time frame. The German water industry is one of the economic drivers with yearly investments of about eight billion euros. Although a complete liberalisation was postponed by the European Union, legal changes like an obligatory benchmarking or altered specifications for tendering for inter-municipal collaborations and concessions can already be anticipated. The upcoming changes force stakeholders to face the competition for the best position in the water branch well in advance, because a market shaped by privatisation tendencies and consolidation processes bears many chances as well as risks for the stakeholders.
